A clear head, a whole Saturday, and no intention of wasting it.

Step into a Saturday that feels clear-headed and all yours. Do some cardio to get you off to a good start, enjoy a nice breakfast, then map out the rest of the weekend.

    Cardio training

The earlier start is the gift here, so spend it moving. A parkrun is the easy on-ramp, but a run or a brisk walk of your own works just as well. Go at a pace that leaves you glad you went, not one that leaves you with injuries.

  2. Bearmore’s thoughts on doing cardio training before eating (mindful)

This works well because cardio depletes energy stores, and mindful eating helps refuel in a healthy, conscious way.

    Eating (mindful)

This is the meal the hangover used to write off, so make it a proper one and actually sit down to it. Cook something you like, put the phone away, and take your time. This is where your reclaimed morning gets enjoyed rather than rushed.

This can help because the grounded feeling from nourishing yourself can help you feel stable and clear when setting intentions.

With a clear head and the day still ahead, look at the weekend and decide what you want from it. Planning from in front rather than catching up is the shift, and after a few weekends it becomes the on-ramp to a standing weekend habit.

About this Burst

This one is for the Saturday morning that used to belong to the hangover. Whether you have given up drinking for good or you are just seeing what a sober weekend feels like, the morning arrives earlier and clearer than it used to, and often without a plan. So get out and move while the streets are quiet, a parkrun or a run or a walk, whatever pace suits you. Come home to a breakfast you sit down for. Then, over the last of it, look at the weekend ahead and decide what you want from it, from in front rather than catching up. It is not about willpower or proving anything, it is about noticing the morning you got back and putting it to good use. Best done the first few weekends, to get yourself into a good setup and easy to keep as a standing weekend habit once it settles.
